About Our Services and Products:
Delivery of Landscape Materials and Supplies, Placement of Boulders, and general questions

Having Material Delivered:

Where do you deliver? and what are the rates?   We generally deliver landscape materials and supplies from Castle Rock to Fountain and from Manitou to Ellicott (including the Tri-Lakes area, Colorado Springs, Black Forest, Peyton, Calhan, Perry Park, Larkspur, Castle Rock, Manitou).  We will go further than these areas, please call to find out. -- As for rates, these vary, please call and speak to one of our representatives.

Can we Mix Material? or get Several Materials delivered at once?   If you are in need of different products, (such as mulch and topsoil?) you will probably want several deliveries.  Whatever you have delivered in One Delivery will not stay separate, It Will Mix Together.  Each delivery will have a delivery fee.

Do I need to be there to accept the delivery?   Yes, someone needs to be there for the delivery - we give you a One Hour window for your delivery.

What's the lead time for a delivery?   Usually 24 hours - but depending on when you call in the day, we can sometimes do same-day delivery.

I want a boulder delivered and placed - can you do this?  Absolutely...  Generally you would come out to our location, choose the boulder(s) you would like, and we schedule the delivery.  It's that easy.  The charge is hourly, so you would want the area to be prepped ahead of time (if possible).  You can either have one or multiple boulders delivered and placed at the same time.

Picking Material up Yourself:

How much landscape materials will my truck hold?   Most pick-ups (w/out trailers) can put 1/2 yard or ton up to 1 yard or ton in the back of their truck.
It depends on what the truck/vehicle is rated at.
(example: a 3/4 ton pick-up truck can generally carry 3/4 to 1 ton)

How much product do I have to buy?   If you only need a little bit of material, say 20-50 lbs worth, that's Okay!  You can buy as little or as much material as you need or want.

How does the process work?  Well, you just need to come into our location and speak with someone at the front desk.  They will have you pull your vehicle onto the scale to get a "light weight".  Than you can load your vehicle or if you have an open bed trailer or truck, we can load your vehicle for you.  After the material has been loaded, we will have you pull back onto the scale for a "heavy weight".  The sales desk will calculate how much product you have and calculate the cost.

*** Military Movers ***  We also do CERTIFIED WEIGHTS.

??WHAT LANDSCAPE MATERIAL IS USED FOR WHAT??

The information below is very general - products maybe used for more uses than listed.

DECORATIVE ROCK (GRAVEL) AND DRIVEWAY MATERIAL:

-Peagravel:  Dog Runs / Children Play Areas / Under Hot Tubs or Sheds / Decorative

- 3/8" Rock:  Pathways / Decorative / Driveways(sometimes)-biggest complaint for driveway use is the material gets stuck in the tire tread and tennis shoes, and ends up tracking into the house and/or garage.

- 3/4" Rock:  Driveways (most common) / Decorative

- 1 1/2" Rock:  Decorative / Can be used for Driveways (Usually if it's really muddy)

- Washed River Rock:  Drainage areas (ex: French Drain) / Decorative
Note:  River Rock doesn't work as well on driveways (but can be used) because it's a rounder rock and not crushed (sharp edges) and tends to move around more (like marbles) instead of packing down.

- Road Base:  This is a 3/4" minus material, which means that it has 3/4" rock and a lot of fines.  It's a decomposed granite that packs really well.  It's generally used for shaping a driveway or roadway. / Back Fill / anything that needs compacted material.

- Recycled Concrete:  Driveways / can be used to mix with concrete / This is also a 3/4" minus material - it can get "dusty" when dry.

- Recycled Asphalt:  Driveways - you'll get the best results if you lay this material when it's warm out (between 65 & 85 degrees F) otherwise it will clump.  This product works really well!  Also a 3/4" minus material.

- Granite Sand / Breezes:  Pathways / Decorative / in between flagstone.
Caution: Red Breeze tends to "track" into the house.  You might want to stay away from this for a pathway directly into the house.

BUILDING STONE / RIP RAP / BOULDERS:

- 5"-12" / 18"-24" Rock:   Used for Building Walls / Lining Ditch's / Sides of Hills for Erosion Control / Decorative.

- 24"-36" Rock:   Accent Boulders / Walls / Misc.

- Cobblestone / River Rock (All Sizes):   Decorative / Ponds / River Beds (for dry creek river beds most often people mix the  different sized river rock to make the river bed look more natural) / Can be used for Retaining Walls if concrete it together / Can attach to a structure (fireplaces, walls of a house, etc.)

Boulders:
Accent Rocks / Walls / Put your house address on?

Palletized Building Stone:
Walls / Pathways / Ponds / Decorative / Create an Outside Fire Pit
FLAGSTONE:

Patios / Walkways / Stepping Stone / Ponds / etc. - we've seen some use this as flooring in their house, around fireplaces, as Table Tops, whatever your imagination can think of.

What to put in between flagstone:

Whatever you can think of: Breeze (1/4" minus material) / 3/8" rock / Grass / Concrete / Thyme / Moss / etc.

Install: Usually you would put a 3/4" rock down first for drainage, then sand, then the flagstone.  THE BIGGEST THING WITH FLAGSTONE IS THE PIECES NEED TO BE LEVEL, SO THAT WHEN YOU STEP ON THEM THEY DON'T BREAK.  That's why you generally put sand down so that you can work the flagstone in and make them level.  ** Also, sand helps keep the moisture away from the flagstone!  In Colorado, we get a lot of "freezing & thawing".  This can also cause breakage and your flagstone to up heave - this is why it's better to get flagstone in 1 1/2" - 2" thickness (thinner flagstone in Colorado is more susceptible to breakage).
TOPSOIL, SOIL MIXES, ADDITIVES, AND OTHER:

- Fill Dirt:  This is not topsoil / It will not grow anything / Used for filling areas / Cheapest Back Fill

- Unscreened Topsoil:  This is the lowest grade topsoil / Has a few clumps, sticks, rocks in the soil.

- Screened Topsoil or Grade A Topsoil:  This has been "screened", so anything 3/4" and larger has been taken out of the soil for easier use.

- Topsoil / Cow Manure Mix:  approx. 75% screened topsoil and 25% shredded cow manure (the manure has been aged)

- 3-Way:  approx. 50% screened topsoil, 20% shredded cow manure, 20% compost, and 10% humus - this gives you the most water retention and nutrients. (I have found mixing sand with the product works wonders- maybe 1/4 sand to 3/4 3-way depending on the plant)  Used mainly for flower beds, vegetable gardens, and lawns.

Soil Additives:
All Additives should be mixed in the soil well or rototill into the soil or top-dressed 1/4" thick.

- Shredded Cow Manure:  Is aged at least two years and shredded.

** All composts are CLASS II compost:  Fully composted, stabilized and mature product that is generally made from manure based feed stocks (dairy, poultry)  Proper application quantity and incorporation is important to plant germination & sustainability.  Normally has increased levels of nutrients & can be used to supplement fertilizer needs.

- Canyon Compost:  Produced from organic rich dairy manure and bedding materials - can be used w/all types of plants & soils (sand to clay).  As Soil Amendment: incorporate 6-8" deep.   As Top Dressing: combine w/aeration-use 1/4" thick.

- Aspen Rich Compost:  Produced from poultry litter & bedding materials - can be used w/all types of plants & soils (sandy & clay) and any time of year.  Well suited for use when higher nutrient values are desirable.   As Soil Amendment: incorporate 6-8" deep.    As Top Dressing: use in the spring or fall - combine w/aeration - use 1/4" thick.

- Polymer Crystals:  Horticultural Water Absorbent Polymers which are organic and specifically designed to improve the capability of soils to retain water and plant nutrients.  Upon contact with water, the crystals swell, absorbing many times their weight.  When added to the soil; plant roots grow directly through the polymers where they extract the stored water & nutrients as needed.  This reduces the amount & frequency of watering & fertilizing required, and improves aeration and water infiltration.

- BioComp:  Produced utilizing a combination of several feed stocks, including brewers waste, wood wastes or various types, biosolids, and at times, treatment plant residuals - can be used w/all plant types and soils (sandy & clay) and any time of year.  Screened to 3/8" - compost choice when SALTS are critical factor (salts primary nutrient and not sodium chloride) - AG INDEX GREATER THAN 10.

- ProGro:  Generally mixed with Masonry Sand - Fine Textured (<1/4") material engineered from high quality, nutrient-rich compost.  Excellent for Top Dressing golf courses and similar applications. - Stabilized organic material, specifically designed for high-end applications. - Top Dress: 1/4" thick - combine w/aeration - use in the spring and fall.

DECORATIVE BARK AND MULCH:

** Apply mulch at least 2-3 inches deep around the root zones of trees, shrubs, flowers, vegetable gardens, and even to outdoor container plants.  Weed fabric may be used under the mulch as an added measure to keep weeds down.
There is a GOLDEN RULE for garden beds:  MULCH, MULCH, AND MORE MULCH!
Mulch:   Insulates, Absorbs Water (and slowly releases back to the soil), Slows Evaporation and Water Runoff, Improves Soil Quality (added bonus, it adds organic matter to the soil as it breaks down), Stops Erosion, and Slows Down Weeds & Pests.

Recycled Mulch:  Chipped-up Pine Pallets (double ground) and died a specific color using Iron Oxide Dyes (colors: Red, Brown, Gold).  The Dye is non-toxic.  Advantage:  the color does seem to last longer than the "natural" mulches- Might get two seasons out of it instead of just one (recommend "rolling" the mulch to give you a "fresh" look)

Cedar Mulches:  Shredded Cedar - comes in two different colors (the Red Cedar Mulch is "golden" in color and the Cascade or Gorilla Mulch is a "Dark Brown with slight red tint") - Advantage: "Stringier" material, which tends to mat better for windy situations.  The cedar smells good and I have heard that it helps detour bugs.

Playground Mulch:  Is certified for playgrounds (softer than pea gravel to use).  Kind of a "golden/tan" color.  Recommend 8"-12" depth for playground surfaces.

MULCH GUARD:  Super-bonding liquid polymer that locks fibers together.  Prevents mulch loss due to wind and washout events.  Non-Toxic, environmentally safe.  Will not harm vegetation.  Gives mulch a fresher, richer color.  Easy to apply and easy to clean up.  1 gallon covers approx. 200 sqft 2 coats thick.  Mix 1-part Mulch Guard to 4-parts water.  DO NOT LET CONTAINER FREEZE.
LANDSCAPE FABRIC / POLYSPUN:

Used under rock or mulch / can pin it down if you want by using Fabric Pins- It's not required to pin it, especially if you're using under rock (should be heavy enough) / Helps prevent WEEDS - they won't grow through the fabric but dust will settle on top of the fabric and we've seen weeds grow on top in the dust.  But the weeds are much easier to pull since the root is still at the surface.  So this product helps, but is not 100% full proof to eliminate weeds.

UNDER MULCH: if you want your mulch to "Mulch Out" or decompose over time and you want to mix the mulch into the soil, then you would not install fabric.  Common for Flower and Vegetable Gardens.

Comes in SIZES:  as low as 3'(W)x50'(L) upto 15'(W)x300'(L)
EROSION BLANKETS and SUPPLIES:

Erosion Blankets:  These are straw blankets (double-sided netting - makes it more durable and easier to deal with).  These are used to help prevent erosion, especially on the side of a hill.  Mainly used to put over seed on the side of a hill, it will keep the soil in place until the seed germinates.  The blanket will decompose over time.  Comes in 4' and 8' lengths.

Wattles:  Tubular straw, staked into place / usually used in ditches for erosion control.  9"x25'

Silt Fence:  To help prevent erosion and sediment flowing into unwanted areas.  36"x100' w/oak stakes.

EDGING MATERIALS:

Professional Black Plastic Edging:  5"x20' sections.  Comes w/pin kit (4 stakes and connector).  Black Plastic.

Green Steel Punched Edging:  4"x10' sections.  Comes w/4 stakes.  14 gauge metal - green in color.

Steel Edging (Flat Top):  4"x10' sections.  Does not come with pins.  Top is SHARP (recommend putting safety cap on above ground section, especially if you have children or pets)  14 gauge metal - metal in color.

Steel Edging (Rolled Top):  4"x10' sections.  Does not come with pins.  The top is Rolled for Safety. (most common) 18 gauge metal - metal in color.

EZ Safe Edging:  4"x10' sections.Does not come with pins.  The top is Rolled for Safety and has holes in edging for drainage (hillside).  18 gauge metal - metal in color.

Safety Cap:  100' rolls.  Used for Flat Top Steel Edging. Black in color.

Edging Pins:  12" long. Used to pin Edging in place.  8 gauge.  (usually figure between 3-5 pins per 10' section - lean more towards a minimum of 5 pins per section if you are curving a lot)

** Note:  Edging should over lap by approx. 4".
